The Women's Battalion



This group of ladies may not look like what you imagine a battalion to be, but let me explain:


Not long ago, President Russel M Nelson (prophet and president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ) spoke to all the youth of the church in a worldwide devotional.

He talked about how the youth have been sent to earth at this time for a very specific purpose, and they have an important job to do.  As I listened, I totally caught his vision and his enthusiasm!  I was ready to "enlist" to be in what he called the "youth battalion."

In my prayers that night I told Heavenly Father how excited I was.  I told him that I want to be in the youth battalion! 

 Immediately I had a thought come clearly and calmly into my mind that said "You are a part of my women's battalion."

Oh my gosh!  I had never thought of it that way!  Of course there would be a women's battalion!  And I have already enlisted!

I believe that now, perhaps more than any time in the history of the world, the Lord needs his "women's battalion" to step up and make a difference.  He needs us to be well trained, focused on what matters, and anxiously engaged in His cause.

I want to do my part.  I want to make a difference.  I am committed to being the very best woman and warrior that I can be.  I have also committed to help with the training of other enlisted women.

Have you ever had the experience of pushing your body to do something really hard?  Maybe it's running or lifting weights.  Maybe it's being in a zumba class or hiking a steep mountain.  You get to the point where your lungs feel like they're on fire and your legs turn to jello.  For me it's yoga- seeing how long I can hold a pose while my body shakes with the effort. How to be a great mom

I have honestly had this thought before:  "I could be the  best  mom if I only my kids would leave me alone and let me get some things done!" It sounds so ridiculous when I say it out loud!  But it felt pretty reasonable at the time.  I had such a deep desire to be a great mom, and some pretty elaborate visions of what that looked like! In my mind, a great mom fed her kids healthy, home cooked meals.  She had systems for chores, so not only would the house stay clean, but the kids would be learning valuable skills along the way. She tucked the kids in every night so they would feel safe and happy as they fell asleep.  She taught the gospel in ways that were fun and meaningful.  She created an environment that was engaging and educational, and didn't ever use the TV as a babysitter.  She planned outings, encouraged children to develop their natural talents, and always led by example. Two ways to do laundry

With seven children, you can imagine the amount of laundry I have done in my life.  It's one of those chores that is never really done, no matter how much time I spend on it.  And while it's not the chore that I hate the most, it does feel like laundry is always hanging over my head, so to speak. Sometimes when I'm folding laundry, I give my brain something to keep it busy, like listening to a book or podcast.  But when I don't... my brain has a default script that it likes to replay.  I think thoughts like, "Why do they always leave their socks in a ball when they take them off? Gross! Now they're still crusty when I open them up!" Or "This shirt is still folded!!!  He just threw it back in the laundry so he wouldn't have to put it in his drawer!"  Or "How in the world do I have this many towels to fold??  I know there were not this many showers taken this week!"  I spend my laundry time thinking about how annoying it is th...
